Cute, Virtually Free Date Ideas

Summer is here, and if you're like me, you have time but no money. Still, who wants to sacrifice on romance? Here are my ideas for some fun and thrifty dates. They work if you're in a relationship or just getting to know someone, or if dating isn't your thing, grab a friend and these suggestions are sure to bring happiness and relaxation to both your lives.

Sunset Picnic
It's old fashioned but cute, pack a picnic and embark to your favorite local park where you nosh on your dinner and watch the sun go down. Be sure to bring a blanket to sit on and some bug spray!

Beautiful Sunset :)
Ice Cream Date
When it's hot outside, say cool with creamy, cold treats. Try a new place or visit an old favorite. This will only set you back a few dollars, but your taste buds will thank you.
At Winkydoo's Malt Shop in Sulphur, LA
While visiting family in New Orleans, LA, we stopped for some Gelato
Dinner (Cooked at Home) and a Movie (Rental)
It's tried and true for a reason, but for a cheaper, and I think more romantic, version of this date, cook up dinner at home and rent a $1.00 movie from Redbox. Here are some of my recent favorite rentals (funny, sad, scary, thrilling, very sad, I've seen it all):
Get Him to the Greek (Single-Disc Edition)SomewhereParanormal Activity 2 Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1Blue Valentine
Don't know what to cook? Here are seven tried and true dinner recipes that are guaranteed to impress your date and your tummy!
Just think, you could be eating this:
Simply Light Basil Lime Stir-Fry

Go Exploring
Brendan and I fell in love on long walks (I know, cheesy). We went to playgrounds, baseball fields, duck ponds, beaches, and the lake. Sometimes, we could just walk from home and other times we took the car. Often, Brendan picked me flowers, and always, it gave us a chance to talk and listen to each other. It doesn't matter where you go, just...wear comfortable shoes.

 Drive-Thru Drinks
Last, but not least, is great idea for a first date because it's pretty low pressure. Grab some drive-thru daiquiris and take them to a park to enjoy. Don't live in Louisiana or a state where such activity is legal? Make your own drinks to bring in a thermos...I'm pretty sure that's legal. If it isn't, you didn't hear it from me! EDIT: Sonic Slush...definitely legal!
yep, we're drinking daiquiris. I loved "Ragin' Cajun" while Brendan went with "Bahama Mama"
I hope you enjoy my fun date ideas. Now grab your husband/wife, fiance, boyfriend/girlfriend, the guy/girl whose number you just got, or your b.f.f. and have some summer fun for cheap.

Here's to big love on small budgets :)

  1. These are great date ideas! Dates don't have to be always dinner outs but must be fun as well. Great post you got here. Thanks for the information that you've shared with your readers. :)

  2. Make your own drinks and bring in a thermos…check!! Doing that this weekend. Wait, though…DRIVE-THRU DAIQUIRIS??!? That's legal somewhere?!? Louisiana sounds crazy. Also, if I watched 'Blue Valentine' on a date I would probably never want to see that person again #moodkillerrr
